Little Things

“It’s the little things in life that count.” That’s what I have heard most of my life. I even heard it when I bought my first car. By the way, it was a very large car at eighteen feet, two inches. My mom told me that as she looked at its size. Let’s think about it for a moment. Ask the mother of a brand new little, little baby if that line is true. Watch a child’s eyes light up when they receive a small simple sucker for no reason at all. You're welcome Toby.

I had something small happen to me this morning. As I drove to work I started to notice that I was getting a lot of green lights at 4:34am. Guess I didn’t notice it at first. Even the light that is always red was green this morning. I thought to myself with a smile on my face, “Bonus”. It was green again when I pulled off the QEW at Bronte Road and headed north to green after green. I smiled more. But the big light was coming up, Dundas and Bronte. Always red, well 99 times out of 100. Someone was already there and when I started to pull up to a stop, it changed and I kept going.

Those sort of small things brightened my day and I thought I would share them so you can be encouraged to also look for the little things in life that count for you today. There are so many little things that brighten all of our lives we just have to notice them. We don’t because we are way too busy. Things like a casual smiling hello as you walk along on you day is a little thing. Seeing a new tomato blossom on the vine, is a little thing. Sneezing and having someone say, “God Bless You”. You get the idea.

This week as you go through your days and nights, take notice. Watch for some small insignificant things happening and realize more as each day unfolds that the little things in life don’t just count they add up to something greater. Five loaves and two fish were just little things, but in the hands of Jesus… but I can image seeing the smile on His face when He looked to heaven and says something like this: “Father, let’s make a little thing huge.”

Something to think about.

Let The Son Shine In.

The best day of the year I love most has arrived. No, it’s not my birthday so don’t send expensive gifts. This day is the day where we have more sunlight than any other day of the year. What an awesome day for those of us who are energized by the sun. Something about vitamin D I think. This morning, even noticed a hint of sunlight shortly after 4:30am, which had me imagining Earl out looking across the field noticing the crops reaching for the sun. When I was driving home from church this past Sunday I really started to take notice of how green everything we getting, even with the lack of rain. I also started thinking of a bible story that said, we can plant and tend and water but God gives the growth.
It also gave me opportunity to think of the similarities, a metaphor if you will, of our visual world and the spiritual world. When we have more of God’s Son in our life, we grow more and are enlightened in so many ways we become all God intended us to be and just like Him. The warmth of the Son warms our hearts and calms our fears. My Bible reads in 1 John 5:12, Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
What an amazing picture of Jesus Christ in your life. And just like the truth of our world where the sun gives life and food, so does God’s Son. Not much grows without the warm light of the sun. God knew what He was doing when He put the world together and created and prepared it for us. Everything we need is here. He knew right from the beginning in Genesis 1:3 that His first priority was light. The sun gives us warmth, light and we also absorb the suns rays in ways too difficult for me to explain. He had it all figured out before we arrived on the sixth day.
So life is when we have the Son of God Most High. Jesus can come into our lives and enlighten us or feed us with the knowledge of His Father, our Father. We can grow and flourish in His presence and be all He intended us to be. Just like a bean. He created it to be a bean and it’s amazing that the germinating life that lives in the bean seed reproduces another bean. Not a cabbage or tomato. It is the same with us. He puts the germinating life, His life in us and in every person and He watches to see how the grows. Want to really grow in God, get closer to the Son. He will enlighten your heart and warmer your soul.

Wrong Button

AAAAAAAAAh! I hit the wrong key, or button if that is what you call it. For some reason something out of the ordinary popped up on the screen yesterday and like most people I didn’t read it all but just clicked to get to the next page. Unfortunately the next page did not come up.  So, like most of us, I went back to the start only to find that the start item was no longer where it has been for 5 years. What’s with that? What do you do? What do I do? Yes, I shut it down and went on to do other things.
Life can be like that as well. When something is not going according to plan, many times we just shut it down and go on to something else for the time being. Here is my advice, don’t do that with too many projects. I have done just that. Right now we have more than three major projects on the go at our place. You guessed it, nothing is getting finished.  So, this morning, knowing many of you are waiting to read what you are reading, I did the only thing I knew what to do, I did a restore.
As you can tell, it worked. Took a little time but I just let the computer do its work and presto, there it was again. You know, we can do that with our lives. When problems get to be too much for us, when life just isn’t going right and we have pushed the wrong button, it’s time to go to the creator of our life and have Him restore us to what we need to be. After all, He not only created us but He guides and directs and sometime, sometimes He restores us to be all that He had planned for us to be in the first place. And that’s a great thing. Maybe you need to do just that today.

Lost & Not Found

Have you ever lost something and can’t seem to find it? That happened yesterday for me. Let me make this a little clearer. I misplace things all the time but yesterday was one of those, “SURPRISE! you can’t find me” moments. Now you know what I mean. The search was on.

It was almost time for church and I was looking for the microphone. Nope, not where I usually put it. That meant getting into search mode very quickly. We spent valuable time looking for it to no avail. Then the pulpit microphone was not working that well and Karen helped me out with her line mic and worship went on.

The search continued early Monday morning. Well, let’s just say, it’s still not here. But there was good news to this story of lost and found. In my search I found something that went missing four weeks ago and some other things that disappeared, or went in hiding during the last month. My theory is, these items do this just to get me. They hide and only come out to be found when we have gone and bought a replacement. Maybe that’s why I loved the movie Toy Story & Winnie The Pooh, so much.

I haven’t given up on it yet. I’m still searching.  At the same time, I’m pleased it’s not that difficult to find God.  I’m glad the Bible tells me that when I search for God, in those moments when I am searching for something for my soul, I will find Him. We can move away from God in many ways but in His wisdom, He knows we need Him and will come searching for the only one who holds the future. We read about it in Jeremiah 29:13, “And you will seek me, and find me, when you will search for me with all your heart”. And you can take that one to the bank.
