Now, Where Are Those Glasses?

Many of you older individuals might have noticed how some things in your body, no longer works the way they used to. You might walk a little slower, or you might have to wait for the coffee to kick in before you can joyfully get moving in the morning. I can name a lot more but that should give the younger adults reading this article a glimpse of things to come.
I remember when my doctor said to me, “You’re at the age you know”. I didn’t know there was an age when things within us stop functioning as they always had. For me it started with my eye sight. Just to read I had to buy the dollar store ‘cheater’ glasses. Fortunately the optometrist told me about ten years ago that my sight would not change much now. Good, that helps as other things start to go on permanent holiday.
When I started working on clocks and watches I bought a pair of those headgear vision googles. They’re great. They have double lenses so I can see almost everything and there is also a bonus, LED lights. It’s almost as if I’m young again, well, vision wise that is.
All of this reminds me of a verse that talks about God’s sight. Jeremiah 23:24 goes like this; “Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them?” declares the Lord. “Do not I fill heaven and earth?” declares the Lord. We can’t hide from Him but this is a good thing as well, because He is watching out for you and for me every second of our lives. And that sounds wonderful.

Jesus Is The Light of The World

This coming Thursday is one of my favourite days of the year.  No, it’s not any type of holiday, nor is it a significant day in the life of me or my family. We don’t even have to mark it on your calendar because it’s already there on most calendars.
Most people think of it as the first day of summer. Yes, summer arrives this coming Thursday.  But that is not what I think of that day. There is something more amazing about this date being the start of a new season. For me and many people like me it is the day with the most sunlight. How much sunlight you might ask, well for us, it’s a total of fifteen hours, twenty three minutes and thirty-four seconds of sunlight. Don’t you just love that vitamin D?
As I drove to the office this morning I noticed a faint ray of sun off in the east at 4:30am. And last night as I settled into bed at 10pm there was still light in the sky. Why do I like this day of all days? It’s simple really; I’m affected by limited sunlight. Many people are you know. Too many rainy days in a row makes for a gloomy outlook.
But there is more. Every year it reminds me of our need of having the Son of God in my life. Yes, there are season of life that have less of the Son of God but we live for those days and weeks and months when Jesus Christ’s presence helps us get through our down days we have just traveled through. Maybe that is why we need to walk with Him daily.
Think of Jesus this coming Thursday and revel in the thought of how much He brightens all of our days.

Not Long Now!

Only a few weeks to go and the kids will be out of school for two months. Just thought I would mention it. Summer in this part of North America is so beautiful and lucky for us, we get to enjoy it for more than two months. Referring to the last blog, do you have your list in hand?

Might I add something to that list? I know all of us want to spend time with our immediate family. And I know that our family mean a lot to us. As you look at your list you will inevitably recognize that most of our summer plans include those people that take up so much of our lives. I’m excited and I know you are because God wrote an amazing book that is all about relationships and those who were close to each other. There are times as I read The Book, that I see some of what I read in people I know. Now some of those stories I wouldn’t have chosen but He did and He did it for a reason.

God wants us to know that life isn’t always perfect. You only have to ask Job about that one. This leads me to what I want you to do this summer. I want you (and me) to include everyone you can to be part of this amazing summer that is just days away from all of us. Include those who you don’t get together with very often. Reach out to family and friends that, like us have been caught up in too much of life at the exclusion of people that really mean something to us.  Even reach out to those you have had tension with. Lastly, get together with God and the people you would say are part of your spiritual family.

In all of these, like Job, bring God along. He loves writing stories about relationships and He wants to write about you and your amazing summer.

Write These Things On My Heart

After looking over the list I made of things to do this summer, I came across another list.  It was a ‘to do list’. It doesn’t have a date on it but it is a recent one. Where did you put yours? You make them, I make them and I even know people who have a list printed in their minds.
Interestingly I noticed, not many of the ‘to do’ items had been accomplished. How did that happen? Ok, stop laughing. It must have something to do with priorities. Or it could be that my energy ran out before I ran out of things to do. An old friend taught me a long time ago about a couple of things that would help with any list. By now he probably has already forgotten he told me. Doug said, ‘The best way to get things done is to finish what you are doing at that moment before going on to the next’. Now that is difficult for most men. We have a propensity to not finish things we start. Ladies, stop nodding your heads.
The second thing he told me was, ‘If you have something in your hand, put it where it belongs and don’t just put it down anywhere.’ That one stuck with me and in most cases it has helped me in getting more done because I don’t have to pick up and move something two or three times. I’m not as good as Doug but lots of progress.
The same is true with picking up your bible and reading it. Put it in the same place all the time and it will be where you know you can get it when your time allows you to find it and read it. Because when you read it, those verses burn a permanent place in your mind that changes your heart and moves you to continue to follow Him, all day and every day.  Now, where did you put your bible?
