Waiting
Have you noticed, we seem to always be waiting for something?
When I was a teen I distinctly remember a play (book) they encouraged us to
read called,’ Waiting for Gadot’. To make a long story short, Gadot never shows
up. Really, that is what this play as about. Just so you know, I didn’t read it,
I didn’t even read the Coles Notes Version.
Our lives are filled with enough waiting that I don’t want
to read about someone else’s waiting. To be sure, we are all waiting for some
of the same things. Our calendars are filled with collective waiting. We waited
for Christmas, it came and moved into the realm of the past, just like New Year’s
just days ago. I didn’t stay up because I wasn’t waiting. Saw it the next day
on the Six O’clock News. You can tell you’re old when you can only make it to
eleven pm. One day after Christmas was over the bombardment of Valentine’s was
displayed where the Christmas stuff sat. But wait a second, isn’t Ground Hog
Day coming in four weeks? Which means we have only just over ten weeks until
spring?
Kids wait for graduation. Adults are waiting for another
promotion. Teachers waiting for the children to return to school. Sorry
about that teachers. Seniors sitting in the mall food court waiting. . . for
other seniors to come by so they can talk about the weather, the pills they
take and not getting respect from all the kids walking around waiting for their
next text.
Then I realized, there is one thing in the whole universe
that I never have to wait for. And I will share it with you. Or should I say,
He will share it. We never have to wait for God. We don’t call Him on our cell
phone and that’s good because I wouldn’t know His number. It is our pleasure to
know we don’t even need to have that number on speed dial. We don’t even have
to wait in line. I’m tired of waiting for the long lines at the store. I even
walked out on a specialist once, or was it twice. No waiting for Santa, no
waiting, NO WAITING!
Here is the truth found in Psalm 145:18 “The Lord is near to
all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” Many times over my life
I have just called out His name and heard his still small voice respond, “Yes
child, I’m here.” No waiting, just call out His name. Go ahead, give it a try.
Something to think about.
Rob
